So, I’ve been in Kenya for nearly a month. The largest animal I have seen thus far is that of the common sickly cow. Zebras, lions, giraffes you say? None. NONE! I am shocked, truth be told. The lucky Science and Math B&B’s down at Loitoktok have already seen their share of zebras, giraffes and elephants. Today, however, I have a small victory to share. Karl, Alyssa and I stopped at the house of the deaf preacher who preaches at Kaaga School on the way to town. While we were waiting for her to show up, I spotted a creature lurking in the rather sparsely leafed magnolia tree. Closer inspection revealed a trio of horns jutting out from the animal’s head. The telltale C-shaped hands marked the animal as a chameleon! I was so excited – I have never seen a chameleon in the wild and I had definitely never seen one like this in my life. (I was also excited to see ANY bizarre animal because T.I.A. right?!) So, me being me, I poked and prodded at it (humanely, of course) and let it go it’s merry way.

After the chance encounter, we took a taxi into town and went to the local cafe. We ordered two pizzas and Tusker beers. The first pizza I’ve had in a month and my taste buds were loving me as if they’ve never been graced with the flavour of pizzas before. The only difference between the pizzas here and back home is that the crust on the pizzas here are made out of chapatis. All in all, an excellent night – what can go wrong with pizzas and beer at a total of 1,700KSH, 3-way? :)
