I had a very sleepless night with the Glee Cast’s version of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing stuck in my head while imagining myself running amok in the heart of Africa. I woke up this morning, begrudgingly, after only 4 hours of sleep. I was struck with an odd feeling and I somehow knew that my Peace Corps Invitation packet would be arriving today.

While making busy phone calls for most of the day, I saw the UPS truck pull up in front of my house. I couldn’t contain my excitement and unintentionally, but very successfully, scared the UPS driver when I burst out of my front door. Spryly swooping up the packet, I dashed back into the house and ripped it open.

“Congratulations! It is with great pleasure that we invite you to begin training in Kenya for Peace Corps service.”

A wave of countless emotions washed over me and I was quickly becoming overwhelmed with all the papers I had to fill out as well as all the last minute things I need to do before departure. The Pre-Service Training will be October 13 – December 15 in Loitokitok, Kenya, which is at the southern end of Kenya at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro!! As soon as these waves of emotion stop coming, I’ll start sealing my fate and begin closing books and ending long last looks. Six weeks is going to go by so fast.
